Pelé has been moved to end-of-life palliative care after he stopped responding to chemotherapy!

The reports emerging from Brazil about the legendary football player are heartbreaking.

He was admitted to hospital on Tuesday to re-evaluate his cancer treatment, as reported earlier.

Football legend Pele, 82, has reportedly been put under palliative care after he stopped responding to chemotherapy treatment for colon cancer.

While a tumour was removed from his colon in 2021.

As reported, he has also responded well to treatment for a respiratory infection and his condition has not worsened in the last 24 hours, the medical staff said.

On Saturday, the Brazilian newspaper Folha de S Paulo reported that Pelé is receiving palliative care after he stopped responding to chemotherapy treatment for the cancer.

According to the newspaper, the chemotherapy has now been suspended and Pelé is receiving end-of-life care, being treated only for symptoms such as pain and shortness of breath.

Pelé is the only footballer in history to win 3 World Cups, and an icon of the game that world would never produce again.

Pelé, rose to international fame when he was just 17 years old and scored six goals for Brazil in the 1958 World Cup, including two in the final in which Brazil beat the hosts, Sweden, to win their first world cup title.

He retired from football in 1977.

Pele has been suffering from health problems in recent years and was diagnosed with colon cancer in September 2021 and spent two weeks in hospital last December.

Football stars past and present and fans, including French striker Kylian Mbappé, extended wishes for Pelé well on social media following the reports that the legendary footballer is receiving palliative care.

 

In the latest development, on Sunday wee hours, Pele’s statement from hospital has been released, stating: “My friends, I want to keep everyone calm and positive. I’m strong with a lot of hope and I follow my treatment as usual.

“I want to thank the entire medical and nursing team for all the care I’ve received.”

“I have a lot of faith in God and every message of love I receive from you all over the world keeps me full of energy.

“And watch Brazil in the World Cup too! Thank you so much for everything!”
