Multan Sultans chase 145-run target in last over after losing five wickets

Multan Sultans beat Islamabad United by 5 wickets in the fifth match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) ninth edition played at Multan International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

Rizwan-led Multan Sultans claimed their second victory in a row by chasing the 145-run target in the last over after losing five wickets.

While chasing the target of 145 runs, Mohammad Rizwan made a strong start after the dismissal of Dawid Malan (0).

Rizwan, 31, scored brisk 43 runs off 33 balls, including six fours and two sixes.

South Africa’s Reeza Hendricks continued his impressive form, contributing a crucial 58 runs off 46 balls to the Sultans innings.

Iftikhar Ahmed took charge of the chase, guiding the Sultans to victory on the fifth ball of the 20th over.

The all-rounder scored  18* runs off 17 balls while Dawid Willey hit seven runs off six balls.

Naseem Shah, Shadab Khan, Imad Wasim, and Tymal Mills each took a single wicket for Islamabad United.

Meanwhile, in the first innings of the match, Mohammad Ali and Abbas Afridi impressed with three wickets each bowling figures restricting Islamabad United to 144 runs.

Agha Salman and Jordan Cox offered a resilient partnership, helping United recover from early setbacks to add 68 runs in 48 balls.

Cox scored 41 off 28 balls, including two boundaries and two sixes, before getting lbw by Usama Mir while attempting a switch hit.

Salman went the top-scorer for United, with a steady innings of 52 off 43, that included three boundaries and two sixes.

The final three wickets fell In the last over bowled by Mohammad Ali, with Naseem Shah getting run out on the last ball, concluding United’s innings at 144.

Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Ali ended with bowling figures of 3-29 and 3-19, respectively.

While Mir claimed two wickets.
