Umar Akmal Charged with Failing to Report Two Separate Corruption Approaches

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) charged batsman Umar Akmal for failing to report two separate corruption approaches. If found guilty, the 29-year old could face a ban of anywhere between six months and lifetime.

In a press release, PCB said that Umar Akmal was being charged with “two breaches of Article 2.4.4 of the PCB Anti-Corruption Code in two unrelated incidents”.

The PCB elaborated with regards to the article in consideration.

“Failing to disclose to the PCB Vigilance and Security Department (without unnecessary delay) full details of any approaches or invitations received by the Participant to engage in Corrupt Conduct under this Anti-Corruption Code”.

They further added, “according to Article 6.2, the range of permissible period of ineligibility for those charged and found guilty for a violation of Article 2.4.4 is a minimum of six months and a maximum of a lifetime.”

The Lahore born batsman has 14 days to respond to the charge. Last month, Akmal was suspended hours before the start of the Pakistan Super League.
