Umar Akmal not to Contest PCB’s Charges

Facing two charges of failing to report corrupt approaches, Umar Akmal has decided not to contest them and wait for a sanction. His case will now be heard directly by the Chairman of the Disciplinary Panel.

Junior Akmal had the chance to request a hearing before the Anti-Corruption Tribunal. However, now that he has given up on that right, going forward we will see the charges being confirmed by the Disciplinary Committee Chairman, Justice (retired) Fazal-e-Miran Chauhan and a sanction will be handed out.

29-year old will face a ban. It could be anywhere from a six-month ban to a life ban. Not challenging the charges of PCB could actually work in Akmal’s favour and he might be a shorter sentence.

Last month the PCB charged the right-handed batsman with two breaches of its anti-corruption code for two unrelated incidents on March 20. The charges come under Article 2.4.4, which deals with: “Failing to disclose to the PCB Vigilance and Security Department (without unnecessary delay) full details of any approaches or invitations received by the Participant to engage in Corrupt Conduct under this Anti-Corruption Code”.

Akmal was suspended a day before the start of the PSL.
