Bykea app restored after brief a episode of hacking

Around 100,000 people in Pakistan use this app every day

Bykea app, used for ride-hailing, mobility, and delivery, is reported to have been “compromised” on Tuesday.

The app users’ inboxes were flooded with swear words.

As reported, users received inappropriate messages through notifications and when they opened it for use.

However, the company claims that the app has been restored, and is “fully functional and safe to use”.

“We apologise for the inappropriate messages sent through Bykea. We can confirm that this was a third-party communication tool that got compromised,” the company said in a brief statement posted on social media.

“If users are facing any issues, they can reach us through our helpline,” the company added.

Bykea Chief Operating Officer (COO) Rafiq Malik while talking to the Geo News said that the company was “further investigating” with the vendor on how they “accessed” the API.

“Tokens have been changed, and APIs have been disabled for now. The app is safe to use,” he said.

Bykea service is available in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, and Wah.

According to the COO of the cmpany, around 100,000 people use the app every day — which has five million plus downloads on Google Play Store.
