The world of Tennis witnessed the epic Wimbledon final between Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer on Sunday. Fans were glued to their seats to saw the Serbian save two championship points to win the first men’s singles final decided by a tie-break in tournament history.
Djokovic defeated Federer 7-6 (7/5), 1-6, 7-6 (7/4), 4-6, 13-12 (7/3) in the longest ever final and settled by an historic tie-break.
Djokovic,32-year-old won his fifth Wimbledon title and 16th major with a thrilling five-set win over Roger Federer. The match lasted three minutes short of five hours.
Djokovic is the first man in 71 years to win the title from match points down. He is now level with Bjorn Borg as a five-time Wimbledon winner.
“I think that if this is not the most exciting final then definitely it’s in the top two or three of my career against one of the greatest players of all time, Roger, who I respect,” said Djokovic.
On successfully defending his title for the second consecutive year, Novak Djokovic ensured that he remained at world number one in the latest ATP rankings released on Monday.
Rod Laver, Boris Becker, Stefan Edberg and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were among the famous faces in attendance to witness the tennis history being made at the center court.
