Dev Patel all set to make directorial debut with revenge thriller ‘Monkey Man’

The ‘Slumdog Millonaire’ star Dev Patel is all set to make his directorial debut with “Monkey Man”. He will also be acting in this upcoming revenge thriller, which is reported for being presented to buyers at this year’s American Film Market.

According to the film synopsis, the revenge thriller is going to be based on the Kid played by Patel. Who emerges from prison to cope up with a world marred by, in the words of the logline, “corporate greed and eroding spiritual values”. The film will be set in contemporary India and production of the film is set to kick off in spring 2019 in Mumbai.

The film is being produced by Basil Iwanyk along with Joe Thomas, Samarth Sahni and Patel. While Patel is also involved with the script of the film. He has done the script mutually with Paul Angunawela and John Collee (Hotel Mumbai, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World) and developed it with the assistance of S’ya Concept.

The action sequences of the film are reported to be choreographed and designed by 87Eleven (the John Wick movies, Atomic Blonde). While Chung-hoon Chung will serve as director of photography who is famed for his work in It and Old Boy.

He has recently completed the shooting for the film ‘The Personal History of David Copperfield’, starring Tilda Swinton and Hugh Laurie. His two other film projects ‘Hotel Mumbai’ and ‘The Wedding Guest’, will be releasing in 2019.
