Nobel Prize Laureate Malala Yousafzai’s portrait has been unveiled at the National Portrait Gallery in London painted by Shirin Neshat. The portrait has an inscribed poem in Pashto ‘To the Malala of the Maiwand on her rebirth’ by Rahmaat Shah Saail. The poem was written before Malala was attacked by Taliban.
The news was shared by Malala’s father Ziauddin Yousafzai. He took to social media making the announcement.
In his tweet, Ziauddin Yousafzai wrote, “Portrait of @Malala by Shirin Nishat unveiled at @NPGLondon.The poem inscribed on the portrait is written by the great Pushto poet Rahmat Shah Sayel.We are grateful to the artist for creating this wonderful piece of art depicting strength, resilience & courage.”
Malala was shot in 2012, while sitting in her school bus in Swat Valley. Currently she is studying at Oxford University and is an advocate for girls’ education.
