Meghan Markle Defamation Lawsuit, Court Allows Tabloid to Change its Defense

In what looks like another blow to Meghan Markle’s defamation lawsuit, the London High Court has allowed the defendant The Mail on Sunday to change its defense. The tabloid had last week requested to amend its case ahead of the trial set for January next year.

The request was made in view of the latest biography Finding Freedom, which The Mail argued looks to be written with the assistance of the Duchess herself. The tabloid argued that in light of the details shared in the book – including a part of the letter that the publication is accused of obtaining through breach of privacy – it seems that Meghan herself did not regard her privacy that she’s suing The Mail for.

London’s High Court judge Francesca Kaye allowed the publisher of the tabloid ANL to review and amend its case ahead of the trial. She was quoted by a publication that while “she made no view on the strength of the Mail’s case, the amendments could not be said to be unarguable or utterly fanciful.”
