James Cameron’s epic sci-fi film Avatar turns 11

While the filming on the Avatar sequels is wrapping up for the holidays, today on 18 Dec, James Cameron’s epic sci-fi film Avatar turns 11.

Released in 2009, Avatar was the first film to cross $2 billion at the box office worldwide.

It’s a long wait for fans as the four sequels are in various stages of production, with Avatar 2 slated to hit the cinemas in December 2022 and Avatar 5 concluding the franchise in December 2028.

It was just a few days ago when Avatar 2 producer Avatar producer Jon Landau and James Cameron simultaneously shared few photos of the sets of the upcoming sequel. 

 

While a day ago, the production team celebrated wrapping up of live-action photography.

Avatar 2 will see the return of star cast Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Giovanni Ribisi, Stephen Lang, Joel David Moore, Dileep Rao, CCH Pounder, and Matt Gerald.

While the new cast members include Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Edie Falco, Brendan Cowell, Michelle Yeoh, Jemaine Clement, Oona Chaplin, David Thewlis, Vin Diesel, and CJ Jones. Young actors Jamie Flatters, Britain Dalton, and Trinity Bliss will fill the roles of Jake and Neytiri’s children for the movies.

While a number of social media users are poking fun at Avatar 2, as the sequel was originally scheduled to release this week.
