No Netflix, no selfies at Cannes Film Festival this year

The 71st annual Cannes Film Festival is scheduled to be held from 8 to 19 May 2018, Australian actress Cate Blanchett has been named as the President of the Jury. It was reported last year that Mahira Khan will be attending Cannes Film festival for 2018. For the confirmation we all have to wait for news. If she is going to Cannes this year, this will add up as another milestone in the career of charming lady.

At the moment we have news from Cannes that there will be no Netflix, no selfies at Cannes Film Festival this year. Festival’s director Thierry Fremaux said in an interview that The Cannes Film Festival will ban Netflix from this year’s event after the video-on-demand company stood firm in its refusal to give its movies a cinema release. Two of the Netflix films were screened in Cannes last year but organizers had said the company would not be allowed to compete at the festival again if Netflix did not show them in movie theaters. Last year saw Netflix movies Okja and The Meyerowitz Stories allowed to compete for a Palme d’Or prize.

Cannes has also banned selfies from the red carpet, saying that fans taking photos with stars created a ”mess”. Cannes red carpet is the festival’s most covered event globally. Cannes Film Festival is going to be first ever event which has officially announced to ban world wide selfies trend on its most prestigious red carpet.
