Soon after the release of Christopher Nolan’s latest biographical thriller, it was discovered that the renowned theoretical physicist was deeply inspired by the Bhagawad Gita, a sacred text in Hinduism. And a particular scene features the protagonist reciting from it.
The particular scene in question features the protagonist reciting a verse from the Bhagwad Gita, a sacred Hindu text, considered the holiest of Hindu scripture, during sexual intercourse.
Oppenheimer was released in India on Friday with much fanfare and was rated by the Central Board of Film Certification U/A, which recommends parental guidance for viewers aged under 12.
However, the particular scene has sparked outrage on social media in India.
Oppenheimer, directed by Christopher Nolan, stars Cillian Murphy as US physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, who oversaw the creation of the atomic bomb during World War Two, grossed around INR600 million ($7.33 million) since Friday.
However, the public seems to have realized the Bhagwad Geeta scene after watching it.
“This should be investigated… on an urgent basis and those involved should be severely punished,” the nationalist “Save Culture Save India Foundation” said in a press release.
