Pakistan’s one of the most creative directors and actresses, Angeline Malik is all set to make her Hollywood debut, with an upcoming flick The Window.
Angeline is known for her selection of diverse characters, this time will be seen playing a mother in the film, produced by Faran Tahir, Randy Zuniga, Ammar Lasani and Kanza Zia.
We got in touch with the multi-talented Angeline to ask about her character, to which she told, “My role is that of a mother who has no choice but to follow that custom to protect her family”.
While sharing the details of The Window, Angeline further added, “The film is based on the concept of Vani or Swara, it is a custom still found in parts of Pakistan where girls, often minors, are given in marriage or servitude to an aggrieved family as compensation to end disputes, often murder”.
“Vani is a form of arranged or forced child marriage and the result of punishment decided by a council of tribal elders named jirga, it is tied to blood feuds among the different tribes and clans. The laws have declared this practice to be illegal but the custom still continues”, she further added.
It will be great to see Angeline Malik, who is such a powerhouse of talent, addressing such a cause at a global level.
