Turkish parliament removes Coca Cola and Nestle products from its eateries

The Turkish parliament is reported to have removed Coca-Cola and Nestle products from its eateries!

As per a  parliamentary source, Coca-Cola beverages and Nestle instant coffee were the only brands removed from the menu of its restaurants in response to these companies’ alleged support for Israel during the conflict in Gaza.

This move by the Turkish parliament is among the first by a government or major organization to target big global brands over the month-long war in Gaza.

Turkish activists in recent days named both companies in social media posts calling for boycotts of Israeli goods and Western companies, that they view as endorsing Israel.

Last month Nestle announced it temporarily shut down one of its production plants in Israel as a “precaution”, becoming the first consumer products giant to announce a response to the war.

The boycott campaign against Western companies and products that support Israel is sweeping across the world.

The boycott has expanded beyond McDonald’s to include other American restaurants, such as the Starbucks coffee chain, KFC, and Pizza Hut, in addition to French products such as Carrefour markets.

Earlier this month, Jordanian citizens launched a strong boycott campaign through social media platforms against American products and brands that they claim to “support Israel.”

Jordanian restaurants and shops published pictures of products that they feel are local alternatives to soft drinks like Coke and Pepsi, while supermarkets placed warning signs on their shelves alerting consumers if a product is American and should be boycotted.

The hashtag #BoycottMcDonalds is among the top trends on social media as the food chain announced it to provide free food to Israeli soldiers!
