We have all heard about upcoming Coke Studio Season 11, which has just released its opening piece “Hum Dakhenge”. This new season promises celebrating the national unity, cultural diversity and this particular track with the vision on “One Nation, one spirit, one sound”.
And staying true to its promise, there comes a pleasant surprise for everyone. It is going to be for the first time in the history of Pakistan that singers from the transgender community are being included in such a main stream music project.
Among the 70 singers who part in singing this legendary piece of poetry by Faiz Ahmad Faiz, include two of the exceptionally talented artists from Pakistani transgender community, Naghma Gogi and Lucky Khan. They are given with the carefully selected, perfect lines of the poetry to sing, “Khalq-e- Khuda, Jo mai bhi hun aur tum bhi ho”, the sending strong message to the world, “Creation of God, that I am, that you are too”.
It is for the first time that people from the marginalized community are included in a big project and are given opportunity to perform on a mainstream medium like other Pakistani artists. People are thrilled about this latest development, everyone is appreciating the new season of Coke Studio, as it has provided an opportunity for the transgender community to be represented along with Pakistan’s biggest music names.
