Abhinandan was released as per Geneva Convention requirements: DG ISPR

Maj Gen Babar Iftikhar, director-general of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), in a press conference on Thursday, addressed the allegations made by Ayaz Sadiq, PMLN a day ago during the national assembly session.

Addressing the presser, DG ISPR said that the Indian Airforce Pilot Abhinandan was released as per Geneva Convention requirements, inking it to anything else is ‘misleading’.

“A statement was given yesterday which tried to distort the history of issues associated with national security,” he said.

“This, in my opinion, is not acceptable to any Pakistani,” he said. “Such a negative narrative will have direct consequences on Pakistan’s national security and the enemy is taking full advantage of this in the information domain.”

The DG ISPR said that following the attack on Indian troops in occupied Kashmir’s Pulwama area, India “showed aggression against Pakistan in violation of all international laws on February 26, 2019, in which not only did it face defeat but was humiliated around the world”.

“Pakistan gave a befitting response to the enemy in broad daylight,” he said.

“Pakistani armed forces’ alert and timely response foiled the enemy’s designs. The enemy planes that had come to drop the explosives on the Pakistani people escaped while dropping their payload on empty mountains in panic after seeing our Shaheens.”

“We downed two fighter jets of the enemy and captured Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman,” he added, terming it Pakistan’s first dogfight with India after the 1971 war.
