Adenovirus (ADV) has gone uncontrollable in Karachi!

As reported, thousands of Karachi citizens have been visiting government hospitals with complaints of headaches, coughs, colds, and fever daily in the past weeks. While the cases of diarrhoea have also increased.

Dr Ruth KM Pfau Civil Hospital reported 782 cases of ADV and acute respiratory tract infection on Saturday, while 1,275 cases were reported on Monday.

According to the Assistant Medical Superintendent Civil Hospital, Dr Harish Kumar, cases of cold, cough, and fever have increased in the last 15 to 20 days.

He said that 90 per cent of reported cases are viral infections, while some are caused by bacteria.

According to the emergency in charge of the Civil Hospital, the cases of diarrhoea have also increased. In the past, 4-6 cases of diarrhoea were reported in Civil Hospital, but now 10 to 12 cases of diarrhoea are being reported daily.

According to health experts, Adenovirus (ADV) has become uncontrollable due to climate change and environmental pollution in Karachi.

Adenoviruses are a group of common viruses that can infect your airways and lungs, eyes, intestines, urinary tract, and nervous system.

Symptoms of the virus are similar to a common cold most often, such as a fever, sore throat; a congested, runny nose; and a cough. Adenoviruses can also cause eye redness pain and also diarrhoea.

Citizens are advised to maintain social distance and wear face masks.
