ASP Shehrbano emerges hero for saving a woman from violent crowd in Lahore.

A brave female officer after reasoning with the men, and not take the law into their own hands, rescued the terrified woman who was accused her of wearing a dress with ‘blasphemous’ text at Ichra Bazaar, Lahore on Sunday.

As reported, the shocking incident unfold on Sunday around 1 pm local time when a violent ignorat mob threatened to kill the woman accusing her of wearing a dress with ‘blasphemous’ text.

The an angry crowd present at Lahore’s market wanted to punish her for allegedly wearing a dress that they thought was blasphemous taking it for having prined “holy verses” on it.

Upon receiving information about the incident, the Punjab Police contegent led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi, who is the sub-divisional police officer at Gulbarg Lahor, arrived at the scene to take the woman into their custody, saving her from the angered crowd.

According to the police, the woman, who declined to be named, said she had no intention to offend anyone’s sentiments.

After verifying that it was a misunderstanding and the design on the shirt did not feature holy verses, she was released, police said.

It emerges that the dress in question the woman was wearing was a design with the Arabic word ‘halwa’ meaning sweet, which has no religious meaning, being sold by a Saudi Arabia-based boutique.

the Punjab Police, in a statrement posted on X, praised ASP Shehrbano for putting her “life in danger to rescue the woman from a violent crowd”.

The department has  recommended her name for being bestowed with a bravery medal.

“For this heroic deed, the Punjab Police has recommended her name for the prestigious Quaid-e-Azam Police Medal (QPM), the highest gallantry award for law enforcement in Pakistan,” the Punjab Police posted, citing Inspector General Punjab Dr Usman Anwar.
