Coronavirus: Pakistan Government Bans Public Gatherings for 3 Weeks

After Pakistan’s first local patient of Coronavirus was confirmed today, the federal government has imposed a ban on public gatherings for the next three weeks. Under the ban, all large scale gatherings including wedding ceremonies, conferences and festivals will not be held across the country.

National Health Advisor, Dr. Zafar Mirza conducted a press conference after a national security session was called in by Prime Minister Imran Khan. The advisor, shared the deets of the meeting, after which a committee on Coronavirus has also been formed.

As per Dr. Mirza, cinemas, theaters, educational institutions, wedding halls, and all other public places would be closed down in the wake of Coronavirus spread in the country. A consultation with religious scholars is being carried out to decide on how to manage sermons and religious gatherings.

The advisor also shared that only Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad airport will be operating for international flights, and all other airports will halt their international operations for the course of the next three weeks.

The committee, including senior members of the cabinet, ISPR and health officials will monitor the Coronavirus situation in the country and formulate a course of action according to the dynamics.
