Dengue cases surges in twin cities, 138 more patients admitted to govt hospitals

At least 138 more dengue patients were admitted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and three government hospitals in Rawalpindi within 24 hours.

According to a report issued by PIMS on Wednesday, 70 new cases of dengue have been tested positive were admitted in the hospital, adding that the total number of cases reported since 1st August reached 200.

As being reported, the three government hospitals have admitted 68 dengue patients since last month out of which 16 cases were critical.

The media coordinator of PIMS Dr. Waseem Khawaja while talking to media said that 70 cases were reported positive in the hospital since last few days.

“The massive surging in dengue cases in the twin cities shows that the number of cases may further increase in coming days. We have established isolation wards for the patients,” he said.

Dr. Khawaja further said that since August as many as 400 patients visited PIMS out of whom 200 were tested positive.

Dr. Khawaja unleashed the fact that it is still not known how many of these patients were residents of Islamabad.

In Rawalpindi, a senior official of the district administration said that out of 202 patients who were admitted in government hospitals, 47 were from Islamabad.

The senior officials further said the patients were treated with free of cost medicines and a large number of them had been discharged.

Meanwhile, the anti-dengue drive in various areas of the twin cities is underway. The massive surge in dengue cases in the twin cities shows that the number of cases may further increase in coming days.
