Designer Maria B’s Cook quarantined in Vehari after testing Positive for Coronavirus

Police and health authorities confirmed on Wednesday that an employee of renowned designer Maria B was in quarantine at the District Headquarters Hospital in Vehari District of Punjab.

Spokesman Qaisar Asif, Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department while confirming that the employee of Maria B was under quarantine at the Vehari DHQ, said the patient’s contacts were being traced and would also be tested.

On Tuesday, Lahore police had registered FIR against designer Maria B’s husband, Tahir Saeed, for sending their employee, who works for them as a cook, to his village after finding out that he is positive of coronavirus, without informing the authorities.

The First Information Report was registered at Nishtar Colony Police Station under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 270 (malignant act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) and 271 (disobedience to quarantine rule) of the Pakistan Penal Code as well as Article 144 and 143 of the Police Order, 2002.

As per the FIR where Maria’s name is not mentioned, despite knowing that the cook had contracted the novel virus, Tahir Saeed neither informed the authorities nor he took him to any hospital for treatment. Instead, he sent him to his native village by a public bus risking so many lives.

Meanwhile, Maria B’s video is circulating on social media where she is pleading PM Imran Khan that her house was raided by Police Personnel at the middle of the night, “as if I was the biggest drug mafia don in Lahore, with guns”

Another video was uploaded by Maria B with her husband where he says that the accident was pure panic and abuse. He said that around 20-25 police officers had come to get him.

In response, an official statement was issued by Lahore Police Spokesperson dismissing the criticism saying that “timely action and sent a message to other violators”.

According to the Spokesperson, Saeed had sent his cook packing, despite knowing that the employee’s laboratory test for Covid 19 was positive.

“In such emergency, reporting of such incidents to health department is compulsory,” adding more spokesperson stated that the patient had met numerous people during his visit to his native village, Karam Pur, in tehsil Mailsi, District Vehari.

According to the police, this criminal negligence had left “almost hundreds of innocent people vulnerable to the coronavirus”.

The statement also added that Tahir Saeed had been released on Bail.
