ECP Contempt: Imran Khan, Asad Umar, Fawad Chaudhry directed to appear in next hearing

ECP adjourned the hearing of the case till January 3, 2023

Imran Khan, Asad Umar, and Fawad Chaudhry have been directed to appear in the next hearing in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Contempt case.

The Election Commission of Pakistan on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of the contempt Election Commission case till January 3 and directed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan, Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry to appear at the next hearing.

A four-member bench headed by Sindh Nisar Durrani, a member of the Election Commission, heard the contempt case against Imran Khan, Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry.

During the hearing, PTI leaders’ lawyer Faisal Chaudhry said that Imran Khan has not been able to travel yet, member Balochistan said where is Imran Khan’s medical certificate? Lawyer Faisal Chaudhry said that the medical certificate will also be presented, but the Supreme Court has not received a written decision on the appeal of the Election Commission.

Lawyer Faisal Chaudhry said that it would be appropriate to let the decision of the Supreme Court come, the Supreme Court has maintained our objections.

On this, PTI leaders’ lawyer Anwar Mansoor said that it would be appropriate to try all the cases together, Lahore High Court has suspended the cases of Imran Khan and Fawad Chaudhry.

Lawyer Faisal Chaudhry said that the guidelines of the Supreme Court should be allowed. Member Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said that the show cause notice was issued by the bench of the commission and not the secretary.

Lawyer Anwar Mansoor said that the order of the commission is not in accordance with the law. He said that if the commission makes a mistake, you will get relief from the High Court.

Member of Sindh said that waiting for the decision of the Supreme Court is fine, but why are the parties not appearing? The PTI lawyer said that I am applying for an exemption from attendance on behalf of Fawad Chaudhry. Fawad Chaudhry has a fever and flu, he cannot appear, the Sindh member said that the insult is not to anyone’s personality, but to the commission as an institution.

The PTI lawyer said that all political parties and individuals are bound to respect the institutions, whatever has to happen has to be in accordance with the law, and I am sure that the commission will do justice.

The member of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said that no one should doubt us, we have no enmity with anyone, the member of Punjab said that if Asad Umar apologized in court, why does he not come here? Let the commission come and say that they did not want to say this.

Lawyer Faisal Chaudhry replied that I will convey your message. Member Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said that consider the apology of Member Punjab.

Along with this, the ECP adjourned the hearing of the case till January 3, 2023, directing Imran Khan, Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry to appear at the next hearing.
