Gaza’s 34 days of war: 10,812 Palestinians including 4,412 children killed by Israeli strikes

International organizations and aid agencies have called for an immediate ceasefire to end a “hemorrhage of human lives” in Gaza

Gaza’s 34 days of war left 10,812 Palestinians killed including 4,412 children by Israel.

At least 10,812 Palestinians, including 4,412 children, have been killed in Israeli strikes on Gaza since Oct 7, the Palestinian health ministry said on Thursday.

And still, there seem to be no signs of a cease-fire in the region!

The latest developments

  • Al-Quds Hospital ran out of fuel and shut down its key operations on Wednesday, Nov 8.
  • An overnight Israeli bombardment on Jabalia refugee camp in the north and Sabra in western Gaza killed dozens, based on reports from Al Jazeera Arabic and Palestinian news agency Wafa.
  • Nine Palestinians were killed and at least 15 others were injured by Israeli forces in a raid on Jenin city and refugee camp in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian health ministry said on Thursday.
  • Negotiations being brokered by Qatar, Egypt and the United States are under way for a three-day humanitarian ceasefire in exchange for the release of about a dozen captives in Gaza.
  • A total of 106 aid trucks and ambulances entered Gaza through the Rafah crossing on Wednesday, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PCRS). The organisation says that the supply still does not meet the enclave’s needs.

International organizations and aid agencies have called for an immediate ceasefire to end a “hemorrhage of human lives” in Gaza.

The fresh appeals were made at a conference in Paris intended to coordinate aid and assess how to help people wounded in Gaza since Israel launched its ground and air offensive in response to an attack by Hamas on southern Israel on Oct 7.

Representatives of Arab nations, Western powers, and members of the Group of 20 major economies are among those attending the conference.

Israel was not invited to the conference.

The conflict in Gaza is a wildfire that could spread across the region, UN aid chief Martin Griffiths warned on Thursday, adding that allowing the situation to continue in Gaza would be a “travesty”.

“The United Nations cannot be part of a unilateral proposal to push Palestinians into so-called safe zones,” he said, at the start of a humanitarian conference on Gaza in Paris.

On the other hand, an Israeli military official has denied there is a humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, even as he acknowledged the Palestinian territory faces several challenges amid the ongoing situation, AFP reported.

“We know the civil situation in the Gaza Strip is not an easy one,” said Colonel Moshe Tetro, head of coordination and liaison at COGAT, the Israeli defense ministry body handling civil affairs in Gaza.

“But I can say that there is no humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip,” he told reporters.

Calls for Ceasefire:

Scotland’s First Minister Humza Yousaf reiterated his demand  for the UK’s government and main opposition to support a cease-fire in Gaza strip.

“How many more children have to die before a cease-fire is called for? We’re calling for a cease-fire. I cannot understand (Labour Party leader) Sir Keir Starmer’s position. I cannot understand the prime minister’s position and I ask them: How many more children have to die before you join us and join many across the world, including the United Nations, and call for that cease-fire?,” said Yousaf.
