Humayun Akhtar has bidden adieu to Pakistan Threek e Insaaf (PTI) amid the events that transpired on May 9.
Humayun Akhtar Khan, the son of General Akhtar Abdur Rahman, in a statement, said, “From the creation of Pakistan to this day, our family has had an enduring connection with the Pakistan Army, and we take pride in the martyrdom of General Akhtar Abdul Rahman.”
He said that the sacrifices and blood of the martyrs will never be forgotten by the nation.
“The events of May 9 have deeply saddened our family, just like the entire nation. Being a descendant of a martyr myself, the damage inflicted on the memorials of the martyrs was a source of immense pain for me, and no matter how much it is condemned it will remain insufficient.”
“Under the circumstances, it is no longer possible for me to remain a part of PTI, therefore, I am announcing my departure from the party,” he said.
Humayun Akhtar emphasized, “The people of Pakistan have always held immense respect for the armed forces of Pakistan, and I am confident that this affectionate bond between the nation and its guardians will remain strong.”
The senior politician has been elected as a member of the National Assembly four consecutive times between 1990–2007.
He also served as Federal Minister for Trade and Commerce from 2002–2007 and as Chairman Board of Investment from 1997–1999.
Politician and business tycoon Humayun Akhtar Khan joined the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in July 2018.
In the 2018 by-polls for the NA-131 constituency of Lahore, PML-N’s Khawaja Saad Rafique (60,476 votes) won the elections against PTI’s Humayun Akhtar (50,245 votes).
