The fire at Karachi’s Cooperative Market on Saturday has caused traders a loss worth Rs 5 to 10 billion.
Over 450 shops at Karachi’s Saddar market were gutted in the fire a day ago in a matter of just 15 minutes.
Karachi Commissioner Iqbal Memon while talking to media said that all the shops located in the market had been destroyed.
He said the cooling process was underway. “We will be able to estimate the losses only after the cooling process is completed,” he added.
However, the cause of the fire could not be ascertained as yet,” he explained.
While the owners of the shops are trying to remove leftover stock from the market, while some part of the market is still blazing under fire as rescue operations continue.
Traders lamented that despite such a hefty loss, no official visited the place.
