Another young man shot dead in Karachi while resisting robbery

Another young man was killed while resisting robbery in Karachi on Friday.

The victim, identified as 38-year-old Syed Ali Rahbar, was killed as muggers opened fire during a looting incident on Jauhar Chowrangi Flyover on the night between Thursday and Friday.

The victim worked as a food delivery man and was a father of two.

Another person Syed Irfan Ahmed, 55, was critically injured in the brazen broad daylight robbery.

According to eyewitnesses, four muggers riding on two motorcycles were robbing passersby when Rahbar tried to confront them.

In between the panic, the muggers opened fire, killing Rahbar on the spot and critically injuring Ahmed.

People who were present nearby apprehended one mugger and lynched him to death.

As reported, a handgun was recovered from the unidentified bandit who appears to be 25 years old.

According to police officials, Ali Rehbar was passing by the Jauhar Chowrangi Flyover late Thursday night when robbers stopped him and shot him dead for showing resistance.

A crowd gathered on to the flyover after the shooting and beat a robber to death, the police said adding that his accomplice managed to flee.

The police found 9mm and 30 mm shells on the crime scene, as per the statement.

As the robbers shot at Ali Rehbar, a stray bullet also hit and injured another man.

The police added that the fleeing robbers had also fired shots at a police party of Madadgar 15 that was responding to the incident.

Following the incident, Sindh Home Minister Zia Ul Hassan Lanjar suspended Inspector Raja Tariq, SHO Sharae Faisal police station.

Sindh Home Minister has ordered an inquiry into police responsiveness and also underlined the need for improved law enforcement measures.

The metropolis has witnessed an alarming rise in street crimes and armed robberies in the past two months.

As reported, armed robbers killed as many as 23 citizens in Karachi during January and February.

Meanwhile, over 5,000 Karachi citizens were deprived of their cell phones, cars and motorbikes in snatching incidents reported just in January and February.
