PM Karar urges world to counter all terrorists, including ‘Hindutva inspired extremists’, in his UNGA address

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar addressed the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, on Friday.

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar, in his address at the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Friday, urged the world to counter all terrorists, including ‘Hindutva inspired extremists’.

“Mr. President, we must counter all terrorists without discrimination including the rising threat by far-right and fascist groups such as Hindutva-inspired extremists threatening genocide against India’s Muslims and Christians alike,” he said.

“Development depends on peace. Pakistan is situated in the least economically integrated region in the world. Pakistan believes that regions develop together therefore [the country] desires peaceful and productive relations with all neighbours, including India,” he added.

Interim Pakistan prime minister also stressed that the UN resolutions on the Kashmir issue are “the key to peace” between the two nuclear-armed nations.

He added that the issue of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) is one of the oldest agendas at the UN Security Council, but India has continued to evade the implementation of the global forum’s resolutions on the dispute.

PM Kakar also slammed India for the deployment of 900,000 troops in IIOJK after the revocation of Kashmir’s special status on August 5, 2019, in order to impose the “final solution for Kashmir”.

He also urged opposition against the root causes of terrorism which according to him included poverty, injustice, foreign occupation, and distinguishing genuine freedom struggles from terrorism.

“Pakistan proposes the creation of a committee of the general assembly to oversee the balanced implementation of all four pillars of the global counter-terrorism strategy,” the PM said.
