Journalist Khalid Jamil on Friday was handed over to FIA on a two-day remand!

The district and sessions court on Friday remanded Islamabad-based journalist Muhammad Khalid Jamil in the custody of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) over the charges of spreading a “provocative narrative against the state institutions through social media platforms”.

FIA detained Khalid Jameel, bureau chief of Ausaf Broadcasting Network (ABN) News last night from his house in Media town, Islamabad.

Jamil was presented in front of Session Judge Bashir Bhatti, where the federal investigation agency requested his 10-day remand.

FIA told the court that it had taken Jamil’s gadgets into custody and was trying to access his accounts.

 

Jamil has been booked under Section 20 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act and Section 505 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which deals with public mischief.

The FIR against Jamil says he was found sharing and propagating highly ‘intimidating’ posts on his X-platform handle (former Twitter).

It added that he misinterpreted and disseminated ‘anti-state’ narratives.

The FIR said his statements can incite people to commit crimes gainst state or public tranquility.

On the other hand, the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists condemning his arrest announced to protest and held a demonstration.
