Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI)intra-party elections scheduled for February 5 (Monday), have been postponed on Imran Khan’s directive.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan in a statement on Friday announced that the decision was taken on the directives of the PTI founder Imran Khan.
“Intra-party elections can divert the attention of candidates and voters from the general elections,” Gohar Khan said.
On Thursday, PTI’s central media department released an official schedule, sharing the appointment of spokesperson Raoof Hasan as the federal election commissioner for the polls.
“The PTI Federal Election Commission is pleased to announce the Election Schedule for the Intra-party Elections (IPE) of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf to elect the Chairman, Central and Provincial Organisations,” the statement read.
The previously held PTI’s intra-party polls were surrounded by controversy after the party’s founding member Akbar S Babar challenged the elections, requesting ECP to order the Imran Khan-led party to conduct fresh polls.
Meanwhile, a proposal to conduct intra-party elections immediately after the conclusion of the general polls is reportedly under consideration.
