The paramilitary force seized a huge amount of sugar worth millions of rupees as a part of an operation against the sugar hoarders in Karachi

Raids were carried out in two different warehouses of sugar on Hub River Road in Baldia Town where they recovered approximately 140,000 bags of sugar, according to the paramilitary forces’ spokesperson. 

As reported, the seized sugar was to be apparently smuggled to Afghanistan through Balochistan.

The seized sugar has been handed over to the relevant civil administration for further legal action.

Massive crackdown against hoarders, smugglers, and sugar mafia is being carried out across the country.

In the ongoing crackdown against hoarders,  thousands of bags of sugar have been recovered, and many arrests of sugar mafias who were hoarding the sweetener and selling it at exorbitant rates.

On Sep 11, Caretaker Federal Minister for Interior Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti announced to launch of a massive crackdown on hoarders, saying there will be zero tolerance for smuggling and hoarding.

Addressing a news conference along with Caretaker Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Murtaza Solangi, he said all the state institutions and provincial authorities are committed to going to any extent to eradicate the menaces of smuggling and hoarding.

He said that operation against the smuggling of wheat, sugar, urea, dollars, and other commodities has been continuing and the government has recovered sugar and urea in huge quantities in various parts of the country.

The minister also informed that as many as 59 people involved in the illegal business of ‘hawala hundi’ have also been arrested.

He made it clear that no one would be spared and the state machinery is determined to curb smuggling and hoarding.
