Sahiwal Tragedy: PM Imran Khan assures exemplary punishment for the culprits

Prime Minister Imran Khan has assured the nation that the culprits behind the Sahiwal incident would be given ‘exemplary punishment’. Three members of a family and a friend were killed in broad daylight by the Punjab Counter Terrorism Department.

The provincial government has set up a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to lead into the investigation of the incident. Three family members including husband, wife and their teenage daughter along with their friend were killed in what the Punjab police officials had declared a shootout with “terrorists” near Sahiwal.

This was the second statement by the PM Imran Khan on the incident that rocked the country Saturday and sparked outrage.

PM Imran Khan in his tweet wrote: The grief & anger of the ppl of Pak on Sahiwal incident is understandable & justified.

He added further, “I assure the nation that when I return from Qatar not only will the guilty be given exemplary punishment but I will review the entire structure of Punjab police & start process of reforming it”.

Earlier tweeting about the incident, PM wrote that he was in shock after getting the news about the tragedy!

In his tweet, he said: Still shocked at seeing the traumatized children who saw their parents shot before their eyes. Any parent would be shocked as they would think of their own children in such a traumatic situation. These children will now be fully looked after by the state as its responsibility.

But, in his next tweet also came in praising CTD, he wrote: While the CTD has done a great job in fight against terrorism, everyone must be accountable before the law. As soon as JIT report comes, swift action will be taken. The govt’s priority is protection of all its citizens.

The Punjab government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has constituted a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe the matter which would report within 72 hours.
