In a sad turn of events, a toddler died after falling into a lid-less manhole in Karachi on Independence Day.
As reported, the incident occurred in District Malir’s Memon Goth area of Karachi.
As reported the accident took place in the Jamot Mohalla on Monday, when a two-and-a-half-year-old boy slipped into a lidless sewer.
The parents found out about the accident after an hour, and it was too late to retrieve the baby.
The grieving father, Abdur Rehman while talking to media said that the deceased child was his only son.
“Where do we go, which door to knock? There is no one to hear [about the loss,” he said.
a relative of the affected family said that the father and son were visiting the area to attend a function when they were met with the tragedy. He said that the manhole was without a lid for the last 15 to 20 days.
According to him the residents had complained about it to the relevant union council but the UC staffers told them that they did not have a lid to cover the manhole.
