Noor Mukadam’s murder convict Zahir Jaffer has filed an appeal against his death sentence in the Supreme Court.
Zahir Jaffer who got a death sentence for the murder, rape, and beheading of Noor, a US national of Pakistani origin, contended that the trial and Islamabad High Court could not identify the fundamental flaws in the First Information Report (FIR).
Zahir’s counsel in the plea stated that verdicts of the lower court were based on ‘erroneous appreciation of evidence’, adding that the evidence admitted is not admissible under the Evidence Act 1872.
The convict prayed before the apex court for annulment of the death sentence awarded to him by the Islamabad High Court.
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) upheld the death sentence of Zahir Jaffer, the convicted murderer in the Noor Mukaddam murder case on March 14.
The IHC also converted Zahir Jaffer’s 25-year imprisonment sentence with hard labour and an Rs0.2 million fine also into a death sentence for rape.
On February 24, 2022, a trial court in Islamabad sentenced Jaffer to death for murdering Noor Mukadam. The court also found Jaffer guilty of rape and handed over 25 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs200,000.
