In the final of the Football World Cup 2022 in Qatar, Argentina defeated France in a penalty shootout after a thrilling contest and became the world champion for the third time.

Previously, Argentina has won the Football World Cup twice in 1978 and 1986.

Star player Lionel Messi scored the first goal against France in the 23rd minute.

The Argentina captain has scored goals in the group stage, a round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and now the final.

Lionel Messi also won the honour of playing the most 26 matches in the World Cup.

Argentina continued to play aggressively and Angel Di Maria scored another goal in the 36th minute to give France a 0-2 lead.

By the end of the first half, defending champions France tried hard to score but couldn’t, with Argentina leading 0-2.

As the second half began, both teams tried to score against each other, but neither team could score a goal for 79 minutes.

Later, France’s Kylian Mbappe scored back-to-back goals in the 80th and 81st minutes, thus tying the ongoing final between Argentina and France at 2-2.

At the end of the second half, the match was tied at 2-2.

An extra time of 30 minutes has been given to make the match decisive.

Messi scored another goal in the 108th minute to give Argentina a 2-3 lead.

But the lead didn’t last long, with France’s Kylian Mbappe scoring another goal in the 118th minute.

The match was tied 3-3 in extra time, and the match was decided on a penalty shootout.
