Cricket legend and ex-Zimbabwe captain Heath Streak passes away aged 49 after cancer battle

Heartfelt Condolences to his family, friends and fans.

Cricket legend and ex-Zimbabwe captain Heath Streak passed away aged 49 after cancer battle on Sunday.

Streak, who played 65 Tests and 189 ODIs for Zimbabwe from 1993-2005, was reported to be battling cancer earlier in the year and had been receiving specialist treatment at a hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Heath Steak’s wife Nadine broke the news in an emotional post on social media.

‘In the early hours of this morning, Sunday, September 3rd, 2023, the greatest love of my life and father of my beautiful children, was carried to be with the angels from his home, where he wished to spend his last days surrounded by his family and closest loved ones,’ Nadine wrote on Facebook.

“He was covered in love and peace and did not walk off the Park alone. Our souls are joined for eternity Streaky. Till I hold you again,” Nadine added.

The all-rounder was the all-time leading test wicket-taker for Zimbabwe.
He took 216 wickets and scored 1,990 runs in 65 tests between 1993-2005.

He scored 4,933 international runs, hitting a lone century against the West Indies in Harare, and took 445 wickets.

He was the first player from his country to take 100 wickets.

Streak served as the bowling coach of Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, and the IPL teams Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Lions after ending his playing career.

He also had been associated with Scotland and Somerset counties.

He also became Zimbabwe’s head coach in October 2016 after replacing Dav Whatmore, tasked to help his national team qualify for the 2019 World Cup in England. However, they failed to do.

In April 2021, Streak was handed an eight-year ban by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after he was charged with and admitted to breaching five codes of the ICC anti-corruption code, which included payment in bitcoins from a potential corruptor.
Streak accepted “full responsibility” for breaching the ICC code but denied any involvement in fixing any matches.

Following the news of his untimely demise condolences and tributes are poring on social media.
