Canada set to increase permanent residence fee by 12%

The fee for obtaining permanent residence will increase from $515 to $575 from the end of this month.

Canada is increasing the permanent residence fee by 12 percent.

According to Canada’s Immigrant and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR), the fees set for applications for permanent residence in Canada will increase by 12 percent from April 30.

The fee for obtaining permanent residence will increase from $515 to $575 from the end of this month.

As reported, the fee increase follows Canadian regulations, which link adjustments to the Consumer Price Index for Canada.

“The permanent residency (PR) fees will increase at 9:00:00 a.m. Eastern daylight time on April 30, 2024, by the cumulative percentage increase to the Consumer Price Index for Canada, published by Statistics Canada, for the two previous years, rounded to the nearest five dollars,” said the Department of Citizenship and Immigration in a notice.

This fee is paid when an applicant applies for permanent residence, which is similar to obtaining a green card in the United States.

The permanent residency further paves the way for possible Canadian citizenship.

The North American country has waived the fee for dependent children accompanying applicants seeking permanent residence.

The costs for various immigration flows are also increasing, according to the Canadian authorities have further revealed.
