College admission scandal: Actors Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin indicted in court

Desperate Housewives star Felicity Huffman and Full House actress, Lori Loughlin, were among more than 40 people charged in US College cheating scam, the largest college admissions scam ever prosecuted on Tuesday that alleges scheme involved in helping students cheat on seeking admissions in top universities.

The dream universities that had been taken for the admissions were Yale, Stanford and Georgetown, the prosecutor revealed with regard to the fact that there were not a suggestion found that the schools were involved in wrongdoing.

The accused in the criminal investigation “Operation Varsity Blues” included actors, CEOs, a fashion designer and the co-chairman of a global law firm.

Huffman, who was indicted in a federal court in Los Angeles, charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud.  She made a “charitable contribution” to participate in the scheme on behalf of her daughters. She was released on bail of $250,000 in terms of bond surrendering her passport. Her husband actor William H Macy was also present at the court.

Actress Lori Loughlin and her fashion designer husband Mossimo Giannulli were indicted for the bribes paid to the University of Southern California for their daughter’s admissions.

The bribery ranged from $200,000 to $6.5 million, according to the reports.

“This case is about the widening corruption of elite college admissions through the steady application of wealth combined with fraud. There can be no separate college admission system for the wealthy, and I’ll add that there will not be a separate criminal justice system either,” said Andrew Lelling, the US attorney for Massachusetts.

“For every student admitted through fraud, an honest, genuinely talented student was rejected.” He added.
