While some celebrities have opted to boycott and/or delete their Instagram and Facebook accounts amid the #StopHateForProfit campaign, singer Selena Gomez has taken a different, more practical approach to solve the issue. Taking it to her private messages on Facebook, Selena has written to founder Facebook Mark Zuckerberg and his team to curtail the racism and hate speech on his platforms.
“Mark and Sheryl, Selena here. It’s been a while since we sat down. We have a serious problem. @Facebook and @instagram are being used to spread hate, misinformation, racism, and bigotry,” the message, screenshot of which Selena shared on Instagram, said.
“I am calling on you both to help stop this,” the singer said and added, “Please shut down groups and users focused on spreading hate speech, violence, and misinformation,” she said.
