US Publication Nominates Imran Khan For Nobel Peace Prize

On February 26th, the Indian Air Force violated Pakistani airspace. Pakistan retaliated for this uncalled for aggression on February 27th when it shot down two Indian fighter jets again invading the country’s airspace. An IAF pilot, Abhinandan Varthaman, was captured.

Tensions escalated and Pakistani premier, Imran Khan, warned the nations of catastrophy, urging for “better sense” to prevail. Addresisng the National Assembly, Imran Khan once again extended cooperation for the Pulwama attack probe and offered dialogues for peace to India.

In a good will gesture of peace, the captured IAF wing commander, was also returned to India.

Following Imran Khan’s stance, Pakistanis began calling for the Prime Minister to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. A hashtag “#NobelPeacePrizeForImranKhan” started trending on Twitter in Pakistan, and around 300,000 people signed online petitions for the same.

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry also submitted a resolution to the National Assembly Secretariat, proposing Imran Khan be given the prestigious prize for “contribution towards peace in the region”.

Following developments, a US publication’s editorial board listed Imran Khan as one of several potential candidates for the Nobel Peace Prize.

In its starting list, The Christian Science Monitor listed Imran Khan as one of the possible nominees, describing him as “perhaps the biggest surprise in the peaceful leadership – and most critical to the world”.

The list also includes South Korean President Moon Jae, Ethiopian Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed and also Venezuela’s interim president Juan Guaidó alongside Imran Khan.
