Real-life heroes to star in film based upon Thai cave rescue ‘The Cave’

The dramatic Thai cave rescue a year ago unfolded like a real film. The incident involved a desperate search, selfless volunteers, an audacious rescue, and 12 boys and one man who were determined to survive against the odds.

Several films of the rescue were planned, but the first to finish filming is The Cave by Thai-Irish director Tom Waller, which involves several of the actual rescue divers.

Several of the real-life heroes who participated in rescuing a soccer team from a flooded cave in Thailand made world headlines a year ago, have been cast to play themselves in the upcoming film “The Cave.”

Reportedly, dive instructors Erik Brown from Canada, and Mikko Paasi from Finland, Belgian rescue diver Jim Warny and Chinese cave diving instructor Tan Xiaolong will be appearing in ‘The Cave’, which one of half a dozen film and documentary projects dedicated to the 2018 rescue operation from the Tham Luang cave.

As being reported, Thai teen heartthrob Ekawat Niratworapanya (“Grace,” “Last Summer”) heads the acting cast. He will be playing the football coach who led 12 schoolboys into the caves near Chiang Mai.

When the Wild Boars team got trapped by suddenly rising floodwaters, the team coach was responsible for keeping the boys alive and calm during the protracted ordeal.

As well as an American newcomer James Edward Holley plays a U.S. Air Force major who was also involved.

As being reported, the film also features several hundred extras, a mix of actors and those who were present at the event itself.

The independent film is being directed by Thai-Irish director Tom Waller, who says it will be “authentic” because it’s told from the point of view of “the unsung heroes” and will feature Chinese dialects, Thai, and English.

“I wanted the film to be an honest portrayal of the events that took place at the Tham Luang cave, and decided to go for a more authentic approach, taking the story from the point of view of some of the unsung heroes who took part in the rescue”, said Tom Waller.

“Like the rescue itself, I wanted the cast to be made up of both local and international characters, speaking in their own tongue”, he further added.
