‘Manto’ gets a contemporary touch by the rapper Raftaar

Nandita Das directorial biopic on the literary heavy-weight Saadat Hasan Manto gets a contemporary touch with a rap song. This is an unusual thing for a biopic when the story is based upon the true events.

But this song definitely brings the ‘Manto’, period drama connected to the present time. What could have been expected was a typical poetical title song for such a huge film, but it’s not, it is quite refreshing though! Even Manto could have like lit, being a rebellious writer of his time.

It is a mix of Raftaar’s lyrics and Saadat Hasan Manto’s lines. The song manages to hit on high notes, depicting the true colours of society. The words used are bold, as the song has put up the age limit 18+ , over the song title available in YouTube.

This song speaks about the taboos of society, incorporating elements of a closed society in a sharp rap.
Raftaar raps keen observations and grave statements in perfect rhythm along with Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s lines, which are cleverly intertwined with Manto’s visuals from the film. As Manto demands answers from the society for considering his work as lesser ‘ART’.
Film ‘Manto’ is slated for theatrical release on 21st September.
