Delhi Riots: 21 Killed in Secular India in Last 3 days During Protests and Clashes

Delhi riots have claimed lives of at least 21 and more than 150 have been in injured so far in the deadliest violence the Indian capital has seen in decades.

As being reported, At least 188 people have been treated in hospital, mostly from bullet injuries, and the rest from blunt force trauma, since the violence began.

The unrest started three days ago when people took to streets protesting against the controversial citizenship amendment bill and turned into violent clashes that coincided with the US President Donald Trump’s first Indian visit.

At that moment,  POTUS was speaking in Ahmedabad’s public gathering arranged in his honour, praising secular India, saying, “Your nation has always been admired around the Earth as the place where millions upon millions of Hindus and Muslims and Sikhs and Jains, Buddhists, Christians, and Jews worship side by side in harmony; where you speak more than 100 languages and come from more than two dozen states, yet you have always stood strong as one great Indian nation. Your unity is an inspiration to the world”.

Meanwhile, on-ground reality, Indian authorities ran an organized crackdown at the Muslim majority localities in Delhi.

As per BBC report, The Delhi High Court, which is hearing petitions about the violence, has said it cannot let “another 1984” happen on its “watch”. In 1984, more than 3,000 Sikhs were killed in anti-Sikh riots in the city.

While Delhi kept burning, it took three days for Indian PM Modi to appeal for peace via Tweet, adding that he had reviewed the situation and police were working to restore normalcy.

Meanwhile, the social media feed shows the gloomy state of Indian capital where the Muslims, in particular, were targeted. There were uncountable accounts shared on social media showing mobs beating unarmed men, including journalists and several groups of men with sticks, iron rods and stones vandalizing properties and setting Mosques on fire.

Photographs, videos, and accounts on Delhi’s situation are trending on social media under the  hashtags #DelhiRiots2020, #DelhiViolence, #DelhiRiots, #delhiviolence:
