MQM-P leader Faisal Subzwari urges govt to cancel weapon licenses till Feb 8

at least three persons including two children were wounded in a political clash between MQM-P and PPP

Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Faisal Subzwari has urged the caretaker government to cancel weapon licenses till the February 8 general elections in a bid to control violence.

“The government should place a ban on carrying weapons,” Faisal Subzwari said while addressing a press conference in Karachi.

“They [PPP leaders] think they can win the elections with the use of weapons,” he said, adding, “You cannot win the hearts of people here by building a few roads.”

Meanwhile, at least three persons including two children were wounded in a clash between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) workers Friday night in Karachi.

This is the second fierce clash between the two leading parties of Karachi within a week as the February 8 elections are just around the corner.

According to the police, 12-year-old Abdul Rehman, who received an injury to his head, was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and was put on ventilator support.

The other injured identified as Ashraf, 40, was beaten with a stick. While, Shumail, 16, received a bullet injury to his leg. Both of them were under treatment and were out of danger, said police.

Late Sunday night, one MQM-P worker was killed in a firing incident in the Nazimabad No. 2 area.

According to the police, the incident took place in the Nazimabad No. 2 area late Sunday as political parties are busy canvassing, holding public gatherings and corner meetings to mobilise their supporters ahead of the February 8 elections.
