Four firefighters killed as building collapsed during rescue operation in Karachi

Four firefighters were killed while 13 others were injured as a roof of the factory collapsed during a rescue operation in Karachi on Thursday night.

As reported, two factories in New Karachi’s industrial area caught fire on Wednesday. The firefighting teams and rescue personnel launched the cooling process but both buildings collapsed after being debilitated amid burning for hours.

The two factories in question manufactured towels and spare parts for automobiles.

Firefighters and Rescue teams were carrying out the cooling process when the building collapsed.

As reported, the fire broke out in the industrial unit in New Karachi’s Gabol Town on Wednesday morning which later spread to four factories.

An army of firefighters backed by fire engines and snorkels was involved in the operation to control the fire for over 24 hours.

The main factory housing garments material came down crumbling in the wee hours of Thursday amid a cooling process burying a number of people including the firefighters.

The injured included 11 firefighters and two other people.

The deceased firefighters have been identified as 40-year-old Mohsin Sharif, 40-year-old Khalid Shahzad, 35-year-old Sohail and 55-year-old Afzal.

Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori taking notice of the incident contacted Karachi Administrator Saifur Rehman and ordered immediate medical assistance for the injured.
