JUI’s Vision of Pakistan Does Not See Women in Public Spaces, Asad Umer

Jamiat Ulma Islam (JUI) Fazalur Rehman faction is actively busy in the Azadi March with collaboration between most of the opposition parties. While many happenings from the caravan are frequently reported, it has also been noted that the march has zero representation of women.

Former finance minister and member of ruling party Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf has criticized the opposition’s march that lacks the representation of one gender in specific.

“One thing is clear from what has been seen of the opposition march so far…. Their vision of Pakistan is one where women have no place in the public space,” tweeted Asad Umer on the matter.

 

While the former minister’s objection would seem logical, it is imminent to mention that JUI-F had categorically stated that women would be barred from participating in the Azadi march, and the same was conveyed to other parties as well.

“Our women workers are not allowed to attend the march,”  MPA JUI-F Naeema Kishwar had said. She also added that Ameer Maulana Fazalur Rehman had informed other parties too of this decision.
