Karachi District East administration imposed a ban on all bachat bazaars operating within the district, effective immediately.
The sudden decision announced on Thursday came as a surprise. The move is likely to impact the weekly bachat bazaars, which have been serving as a means of providing relief to the public from the challenges of inflation.
The Deputy Commissioner of Karachi’s West Zone has suspended the No Objection Certificates (NOCs) previously granted to organizers of bachat bazaars across the district.
As reported, the organizers of bachat bazaars are now required to obtain fresh NOCs from the district administration after completing a thorough verification process.
As reported, around 150 bachat bazaars had been previously authorized to operate under the Bureau of Supply and Prices’ NOC, while an additional 100 were functioning with permissions from Deputy Commissioners and regional savings bazaars without the requisite NOCs.
