KPK Police took a Chinese engineer in protective custody who was accused of blasphemy on Monday.
An engineer of a Chinese company (Gezhouba Group Company) in Dasu is accused of blasphemy following a heated dispute over the slow pace of work during Ramadan.
Police have taken the engineer in protective custody after scores of labourers attacked the officer’s office in Kohistan.
As reported, a Pakistani worker claimed the Chinese officer scolded him for dodging work under the pretext of Ramadan prayers at the Dasu Dam hydroelectric gravity dam under construction in Kohistan District.
It all reportedly started after a labourer working at Dasu Dam was scolded by a Chinese officer on his return from Taraweeh.
The local people started protesting by giving a religious colour and accusing the Chinese of blasphemy.
A large number of mobs in the Barseen area of Kohistan (KPK) had come out on the streets to demand the arrest of the Chinese national after the news of the alleged blasphemy spread in the region.
The administration and government missionaries tried to negotiate with the protesters but failed.
An FIR has been lodged at the complaint of the locals which resulted in the arrest of the Chinese officer.
