Pakistan reports more than 4,000 Covid-19 cases for the first time since May 21!

According to the National Command and Operation Centre, 52,291 tests were conducted during the last 24 hours out of which 4,119  came positive, while 44 deaths were reported.

The positivity rate was recorded at 7.8 percent.

This is the first time the country has reported more than 4,000 infections since May 21, when 4,007 cases were recorded.

Pakistan’s total number of COVID  cases has risen to 1,015,827 and the death toll is 23,133.

The country also reported 7,020 coronavirus recoveries during the last 24 hours.

  • Sindh: 2,517 cases, 20 deaths
  • Punjab: 617 cases, 14 deaths
  • Islamabad: 279 cases
  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 261 cases, 5 deaths
  • Balochistan: 180 cases
  • Azad Jammu and Kashmir: 167 cases, 4 deaths
  • Gilgit-Baltistan: 98 cases, 3 deaths

Sindh remains the most affected region with the fourth wave of COVID-19. The positivity rate in provincial capital, Karachi, has hit 30.8% during the last 24 hours.

While15 days of complete lockdown is expected in Karachi, the decision will be made on Friday.

A day earlier, Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Asad Umar assured to provide full support to the Government of Sindh on behalf of the Centre in dealing with the alarming coronavirus situation in the province. 

During the meeting, Asad Umar who is also the chief of the National Command and Control Centre (NCOC), also appreciated the measures taken by the Sindh government to curb the spread of the virus.

Pakistan’s daily COVID-19 case count crossed 4,000 for the first time in two months while the fears of a fourth coronavirus wave loom large.
