Pakistan makes it to Semi Final of T20 WC after winning do-or-die match against Bangladesh

Netherlands lit up the final day of Group 2 action when they dashed South Africa's semi-final hopes

Pakistan makes it to Semi Final of the T20 WC after winning the do-or-die match against Bangladesh on Sunday.

Sunday had the most happening day for the T20 World Cup as group matches are to conclude setting out the top point holders among Groups 1 and 2 to the Semi-Finals of the much-anticipated cricket event.

Pakistan defeated Bangladesh by five wickets securing a spot in the T20 World Cup semi-final.

  • India, who conclude their group campaign against Zimbabwe later on Sunday in Melbourne
  • Pakistan is level on six points, while South Africa finished on five.
  • New Zealand and England have qualified for the semi-finals from Group 1.

 

Shaheen Afridi took four wickets to restrict Bangladesh to 127 in a knockout clash in Adelaide.

Bangladesh was 70 for 1 after 10 overs.  And then they lost their captain and could manage only 127 for 8.

While chasing the target Pakistan cranked up the deja vu!

  • Bangladesh 127 for 8 (Shanto 54, Afridi 4-22, Shadab 2-30) by five wickets
  • Pakistan 128 for 5 (Rizwan 32, Haris 31)

On the other hand, the Netherlands lit up the final day of Group 2 action when they dashed South Africa’s semi-final hopes by pulling off a huge upset against Temba Bavuma’s team.

Both Pakistan and Bangladesh were leveled on four points and needed the Dutch victory to infuse power in their bid for a semis spot and now play a virtual quarter-final.

The Netherlands pulled off a shock 13-run win in Adelaide and ensured India a semi-final spot from Group 2 while Pakistan and Bangladesh were fighting it out for the other last-four spot in the second match of the day.

Netherlands’ 13-run victory sent India through to the semi-finals and injected fresh life into Pakistan’s bid for a place in the last four.

Team Bangladesh made three changes from their previous loss to India through and bring in Soumya Sarkar, Nasum Ahmed, and Ebadot Hossain in the team.

While Pakistan went to the field with an unchanged squad from the victory over South Africa that made their campaign come alive after losing their first two matches to India and Zimbabwe.

Well, Pakistan proved to be the most unpredictable cricket team on the planet.
