World Squash Federation clears Hamza Khan in age controversy case

World Squash Federation finds no discrepancy in age

World Squash Federation has cleared Pakistan’s Hamza Khan in age controversy case!

World Junior Squash champion Hamza Khan’s age was challenged by the Egyptian Squash Federation on July 27 alleging that Khan’s age was different from the one on his passport and requested the WSF to investigate the matter.

Pakistan’s Hamza Khan won the World Junior Squash Championship 2023 on June 23 in Melbourne, Australia, after beating his Egyptian opponent Mohamed Zakaria, by 3-1.

Hamza Khan became the country’s first champion since 1986.

This is Pakistan’s first World Junior Squash title in nearly four decades.

Jansher Khan was the last Pakistani squash player to win the title 37 years ago in 1986.

The decision was posted on WSD’s official site:

Following the World Squash Federation (WSF) statement dated 28 July on the clarification request from the Egyptian Squash Federation, the following update is provided:

After the Egyptian Squash Federation’s request, the WSF began extensive consultation with experts, including the WSF Medical Commission and the International Olympic Committee.

This consultation found no evidence that the age of 2023 WSF World Junior Squash Champion Hamza Khan of Pakistan is different from the one listed on his official passport.

In addition:

  • The WSF has been advised that there is no medically recognized procedure that can measure an individual’s age without a significant margin of error.
  • It has been noted that Mr. Khan has competed in official international junior events for a number of years and has had the same date of birth registered on every occasion.
